The Public Media Platform supplied content and technology for the Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI) at the University of Missouri’s seventh annual student competition so that the teams could propose innovative solutions in media distribution.
Younger users who are less likely to subscribe to local public radio and TV stations can find and like stories that appeal to them. From within the app, they can also donate two cents or more to the producers of those stories. My2Cents Radio gathers data about user behaviors and preferences that allows for increasingly personalized feeds. The app also gives public media outlets analytics they can use to engage more deeply with young adults.
A prototype of the My2Cents app gave listeners access to great, curated, relevant content like Marketplace or Radiotopia podcasts via the PMP API. Listeners can then give donations to those programs, stations, and producers within the app.
